4 Powerful Examples of Blessings From God

blessings from god

What are blessings from God? Here I was on the sales floor eyeing the latest model of a top of the line Toyota Tundra. The sales representative said all the right words, and when he finally mentioned that it was driven by a famous hockey player, I was instantly sold.

My desire for a Toyota Tundra eventually escalated to a need as I convinced myself that I needed to buy one to help me transport my work tools to and from different work sites. On the dotted lines I signed and made a down payment. A few days later as I went to finalize the deal the interest rate they provided me just didn’t sit well with me. After back and forth discussions with the Finance manager I decided to walk away from owning this dream truck.

I was extremely disappointed and for weeks its all I could talk about. I didn’t know it there and then but it was a blessing from God. Fast forward a few months later I was forced to close my business due to circumstances outside of my control. If I had gotten that brand new truck I would have been in quite the predicament with trying to make payments and stay afloat with meeting my actual day to day needs.

What Does The Bible Say About Blessings?

And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and so, you shall be a blessing. (Genesis 12:2) This is the first use of the word blessing in Scripture.

The word bless is a verb, it is an action, but “blessing” is a noun a description of what something or someone is. I found it simply wonderful that we can bless God, as described in the above definition. A blessing isn’t just something we can receive from God, but something we can give Him through thanksgiving, praise, worship and service. It’s a two-way street, even as prayer is a two-way conversation. What an amazing truth, I can bless God in response to His blessings.

Blessings In The Bible

When I think of blessings of God in the Bible, one Bible story that comes to mind is the famous sermon on the mount. Each of those eight beatitudes are representative of the blessings that as disciples of Christ we will receive when our lives reflect these divine characteristics.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.” Matthew 5:3-11
